What knife do you use?

I have used this knife for a few years now

I bought one on clearance when I was in Nova Scotia about 5 years ago. I see now there is a lot of bushcraft knives, expensive knives, with this blade style. (ie Dozier etc)

It is a sturdy, heavy knife with a thick metal back and a full tang.

From talking with the fella at Grohman when I bought it he said the blades are not bent, chipped or dull. The handles make it the seconds. The handle on mine had chipping where the drill pushed through to make the holes for the pins and the hole for the lanyard. But the chips were smoothed out. There was also a "S" stamped on the blade near the handle. The sheath is nice.

For the money ,$37.50, its a heck of a bushcrafting knife

Plus it supports a Martime company. Which is always a nice thing.

I also just bought a Les Stroud folding knife for $19.99 from Cdn Tire. I will post some comments on that knife a little later as I use it more.

That to funny escapefoot I too have a beautiful Grohman #101 Standard skinner for taking care of skinning game. They are beautiful strong knives! I was looking at the same knife from Canadian Tire I look forward to your review.

I have a SOG NW Ranger that I think the world of- it's a little on the small size, but it works for me. I also have an Opinel #7 for fine carving- it takes a razor edge. Those are what I usually have on me, though there's usually a Swiss Army Rucksack model in my pack. I'd like a new sheath for my Ranger, though- anyone know of someone in Fredericton who makes them?

I'll be honest I bought a Winchester fixed blade from Wally World for 25$ years ago! It was only meant to last a short time but 6-7 years later it still gets used for everything from batoning, dressing small game to opening annoying plastic packaging! The blades a 1/4" thick, full tang and a very handy gut hook. Quick clean, some oil and fast run through ceramic honing rod and all is good!

I agree...no need to spend top dollar for a knive when a 20 to 50 dollar knofe will do the same and last jusst as long!

Helle knives are well worth the money! Beautiful, razor sharp and strong! Helle and Mora are both amazing Scandinavian knives! I would love to have a Helle knife but they cost so much that I would not want to use it for real bushcraft chores, so I went for the Mora Bushcraft Force. Check them out, I promise, you will not be let down. I use mine hard and it still looks like new. If you do get one of these knives, Mora or Helle you should lick up a Fallen DC4 stone and learn how to sharpen a Scandianvian blade as they are different. Canadian Outdoor Equipment is where I get most of my gear from including my Mora kinves! Just google Canadian Outdoor Equipment!

Well RThibault I don't know anywhere local that sells them. However, I get all of mine from a place called Canadian Outdoor Equipment. These guy are great to deal with and returns are no problem. Any of the Mora knives are VERY good quality and will last you a lifetime! I have the Mora Clipper and the Mora Bushcraft Force. If you are a smaller person you would like the Clipper but if your a bigger guy like me you would want the Bushcraft Force. There are a lot of people out there that think they need a big ass huge knive to have a good survival knive! That is so far from the truth, a good sized survival/bushcraft knive is a Mora knive or a knive of the same size and construction. Leather is not the best matieral to have for a knife case because it gets wet and is a great place for bacteria to breed. A knive being used is a bushcraft/survival role will be used to carve small notches in sticks to make dead fall traps then used to clean a rabbit and to cut your lunch up...a nice tuff plastic case is great because you can clean the knife and the inside of the case really well after getting it dirty, you cant clean the inside of a leather case. Get one and you will never go back! Only thing I can recommend is to get the Fallen DC4 sharpening stone from the same place and look up on youtube how to sharpen then correct. They have a scandi ground and are not sharpened the same as a noraml knife.
