Married with 2 kids and I am in a deficit these days as far as time goes but I am in.
I've been working on this garage since this time last year and it is slow going one nail at a time whenever I get a minute. I have my own commercial snow and ice maintenance company which adds to the plate this time of year. I am fortunate in so far as there is more work than I can keep up with in my daily life. I am a surveyor, I contract for local engineering and surveying firms. I just gave up a successfull stump grinding business this summer as it just took up more than I had to give. Once the wife and kids are happy and fulfilled, I turn to my other duties.
When I was younger (I am 40 now) we spent a lot of time in the woods. There were more degenerative activities going on that could have been interpreted as survival in some instances, but in a different sort of way. We still get a couple of canoe trips in every year but thats about it. We were big on playing hard in the canoes. SW Miramichi, eel river, naasis, Becaguimic, Tay were the main play areas if we wanted to have fun with the river.
I have a lot of interest in learning what this group has to offer. Trapping in particular. We used to spend winter nights in our own lean to and I still have the gear to do so. Surveying has kept me in the woods a lot over the years, I have always loved it there. We have a nice stream on our property and endless trails out back. Our Great Pyrenese dogs are nice to have around if you don't want to see certain wild life, and they keep my wife comfortable with the kids on walks. There are a lot of bear out our way.
I make my own charcoal, I have no propane and grill 3 or 4 nights a week, less in the winter. I love my axes and have a profound tendancy to favour hand tools and man power over power tools if possible.
So I am a junior level observer withminimal skills. Could I survive in the woods from more than I brought in? not a chance. Teach me.
I intend to linger until such time that I have steel on the garage roof and the walls boarded in. That'll be sometime in January at the earliest. Thereafter I look forward to getting together.
Pete
