Hello,
I am new to the forum but I am very excited to see a Bushcraft & Survival Group in the Fredericton area. I am interested in knowing if anyone has had any experience with the Gerber Gator machete or it's little brother the Gator Jr.? I have read mixed reviews online saying it's either crap or it is their number one tool in survival situations. Any thoughts? Thank You.

Welcome to the forum! I have never had nor used any Gerber machetes, new or used. I can say that Gerber makes good knives, not saying they make amazing knives but they are not bad. If you good tools for bushcraft/survival I would recommend a good bush knife (Look at the Mora knives) a folding saw and a small axe or hatchet. If you want to carry less don't bother with the saw. However this is just my two cents worth...lol. Thanks for joining!

I have not tried this one, but being a surveyor I never go into the bush without my machete. There are cheap machetes which have no hope, the steel can not hold whatever edge you put on it. I primparily use the Tramontina machetes, available at any farm coop. www.machetespecialists.com/tr18bumawiwo.htmlVery economical, and they work. I can use them ALL day cutting line for a couple of days before they need to be tuned up. I'll expand more later, gotta go. Pete

Thank you all for your input so far! I do have a wide range of bush knives in my "collection" most of which have seen some wear and tear! Thank you for the link to the website, the description of that particular machete seemed decent and the price is nothing to complain about! Thank you again for your thoughts.
