I have been using cheap axes from Canadian Tire for years. I was going to get a new Fiskars axe but I have read mixed reviews online. I think I am going to take the leap and get a Gransfor Burks small axe. Would love to hear if any of you have one of these amazing axes and get your views on them.

i use the fiskers axe ! acually the 14 inch hatchet and i absolutely like it i cant find a flaw in it
and the price is just as good and as far as reveiws there will always be mixed reveiws on everything ya" just cant make everyone happy but in all honesty my best advise is to follow your concience !!! pick the one that you like best that will make you happy im sure ...

Hey rikki! The Fiskers axe's and hatchet's are great tools. The Fiskers hatchet is what I started with years ago, it is still kicking around the shop somewhere. The only reason why I upgraded to the Gransfore Burks hatchet is due to the beauty and amazing craftsmenship. These axes are honestly shipped sharp enough to shave hair off your arm. Good to know that you have some good kit for when we start hitting the field.

ive heard of them and did some research yes very nice! and i do admire wood quality and craftsmanship . i used to work in a military and hunting surplus store here in freddy as you probley visited it im almost willing to bet it was called then fredericton general surplus and owned by a man by the name of BUCK" or BUCKY" the shop is still there but he no longer runs it but were i was going with this is he had used and new quality goods like case" xxx" gone are the days of these ole stores that had good quality mechandise only a short drive away now adays online ordering credit cards just a hassle stores that had personality unique smells and made you feel like more than a custumer i wish stuff like what you mentioned were more easy to aquire we need a store that offers top quality goods more traditional goods not synthetics and shiney labels to make them appear more quality than they acually are ! lol. i still have my snowshoes i got when i was 12 years old made by gros louis" and ive used them trust me ! and there still like the day i got them with care i might add i have givin them over the years nice to look at they are the wood the craftsmanship just like im sure you see in that axe !!! it indeed is very nice they look like axes made many years ago !!!

Rikki! It sounds like you and I will get along very well! I am not saying that the new age synthetics are not worth their money, however, they will never stand up to the good old natural materials of years gone by. I am all for wood, hand forged steel, wool, leather and so on. I wish there was somewhere around here that we could get good gear that was from years ago! I too had an old pair of snow shoes that were beautiful, however, they got broken years ago in a move and I have never replaced them with a good wooden pair. One of my goals next winter is to get a pair. What would you recommend?

no no i know sometimes texting typeing things can have the appearance of differant meanings my opinions are always freindly and i enjoy conversations learning from others opinions too" i really like good gear or say fixing or bringing an old tool found or bought back to like life refinishing something made of wood to see the natural wood grain in something like your axe ... im a very very honest person and take great pride in doing so ! having said that i was ill for quite sometime i havnt been able to do many outdoor activites like i used to but i am now better alot better im proud to say ! its a long story and was a long road to recovery but im preping my gear getting back into things i love to do and teach my 2 boys about nature how to take and give back to it !!! after all it is in our nature to be in the great outdoors by the way i really enjoy surviver man les stroud " it really gives me a sence of doing just that

well snow shoes i have both the old and new type gros louis and tubbs" i like both i guess the wood ones i have have alot of sentimental value and i do use them depending on the outing and terrain if rough i use the new tubbs not because the old arnt as good cuz they sure are !!! just beacuse of my attachment to them . kijiji is my fav spot to shop for gear you can get old and new on there and even dicker !!! on price a lost art !!! lol try to dicker on price at canaidian tire ! we used to exercise that alot at bucks i do miss that alot .

glad to see ya like your axe for the price you cant beat the quality they carry a good warrenty
boy those babys cut !!! and fast super light i think probley they have been said to be the lightest . that means alot when your on a trek carrying other gear and i know its not a good thing to lose it ! but if ya did you can buy another and still be at half the cost of the gransfors "

Yeah rikki, I agree and think it was the right choice to get the Fiskars axe! It is really light and freakin sharp. You really should check out the sharpener, it took about 8 swipes through it to get it cutting hair with some force and about another 10 to make it cut really nice. I am going to polish it up with my Fall.DC4 stone!!! Is it bad when your axe is sharper then your knife??? LMAO

I can't say enough about my fiskars axes. After I bought the 36" Fiskars splitting axe I was prepared to sell the hydraulic splitter for the tractor. I split 6 cords of frozen wood last winter/early spring and it was a pleasure. Effortless.
I love the 24" camping axe. Best thing they are all very rugged. I have destroyed a lot of wodden handles. I love the wodden handle axes I do have, but they don't get used much any more.
I do recommend the ceramic Fiskars sharpening device. It is the same cost as a file, and the finish is great. I'll reduce the burrs with a file, then finish it off with the ceramic.
Given the cost, these rugged axxes are top performers and provide great economics in the long run.

and i agree 100% fiskers are hard to beat great axes maybe some dont buy them because they lack the ole traditional look" but in the new age as we are they to me sure have appealing looks for the times not to mention easy to find if droped! and one big overlooked quality alot of times with fiskers they save our forests by useing composites that outlasts that in the long run started saving us money right from the point of purchase !  |

nope in all honesty i wasnt thinking that way i delt with alot of ppl in that surplus i souly base'd that opinion on that . even i truly love wood the grain color so on . but fiskers came up with a simple but attractive look here in the modern age ! lol again trust me i didnt base that thought on you . lol
