I was in the same boat as you moraguy. I had a couple cheap Cdn tire axes and finally wanted something better. So, about a month ago, I broke down and bought a gransfors bruks from Canadian Outdoor Equipment. I have not even had a chance to test it out much yet except for felling and limbing a couple small fir trees. It performed well for a small axe so early impressions are good. It is only 19" long so it fits nicely on my pack. I will update when I get some time to test it out more. You can try it out for yourself sometime when we have an outing.
The Fiskars you have been discussing seems nice too and at a fraction of the cost of a gransfors.
